Ferry from Ystad to Bornholm Island (Denmark) and return.

Bornholm cycling –

Ystad to Trelleborg –

Bornholm is an island in the middle of the Baltic. It is closer to Sweden than Denmark but it has remained Danish by common consent. Historically, south Sweden was part of Denmark till the 1600’s when it separated but Bornholm remained Danish.

It is an island of beauty and tourism. Because of its distance from Denmark I never thought I would visit but since I came to Sweden it became possible so I booked a day trip.

The day starts damp!

The main town was Ronne. It has narrow street of colourful houses.

This one went a little too far!

I had two hours on the island and I planned to cycle up to a harbour called Hasle, have coffee and return to the ferry.

I paused to admire the coast and read an informative board that said that the coast was fortified in the war against England between 1807-14. I knew we would have fought the Danes at some point.

I got back on the bike to find a puncture!! I suppose I was due one.

So, I had less time in Hasle than I intended! You could say I had a hassle getting to Hasle.
Some of the old houses of Hasle.

I had to get a move on to get back to the ferry on time. I hadn’t factored in the flat tyre.

I didn’t really have the Bornholm experience I wanted. Mainly because of the grey damp weather but I’m glad I made it. It was a late decision to go and I won’t get the chance again.

I returned to Ystad and set off on the bike again. Retracing my steps of yesterday back to Trelleborg for my evening.

I had to stop for proper English tea and tiffin!

I arrived in Trelleborg. I came through yesterday but didn’t look around the town.

Main town square and the Old Water Tower. Look at that blue sky, it was worth waiting for.
They definitely have been expecting showers today.

I have had my jacket on and off several times but to be fair it was mainly dry and I never got properly wet.

I’m getting the feeling now that my ride is coming towards the end and I’m am certainly looking forward to wearing some different clothes!

Two more nights in Sweden before I finish in Copenhagen.
