Helingor, Denmark to Helingborg, Sweden – Ferry + 400 yards cycling!

Well this certainly wasn’t in my plan when I started my travels. It just evolved as an idea. In fact you could call it my ‘Waterloo’ moment!

I’ve had so many ferries that it feels like I am on a cruise rather than a cycle tour!

Before I get ahead of myself….I need to cover my last night and morning in Denmark.

Willow Hill turned out to be a duo.
This was the venue. Sadly the concert was probably only a third full.

The music was good modern Country music. They were entertaining without being great.

This morning I still had some time to fill before my ferry….it only takes about 15 mins to cross the channel.

Marienlyst Slot….another Slot in Helsingor.

I was having a pleasant walk really and trying to visit areas I hadn’t seen.

I visited the Shipyard Museum. It passed an hour. The area of the theatre was all built on the old Shipyard. They have done a wonderful job making it a pleasant public space,
I was first on the ferry and first off. A smooth ‘Arrival’.

Hej Sverige! I get the impression that Helsingborg is a bigger, more commercial version of Helsingor. Its centre was very smart….a little more of a modern feel too. I felt ‘Bjorn Again’.

The Town Hall and some Governor on his horse! I need to understand some Swedish history.
These are the steps up to an old castle. The gate and main tower are all that’s left.
I saw the views from the top and said to myself, ‘Mamma Mia’.

The sunset in the harbour was lovely. The water between Denmark and Sweden is the Oresund, this is the narrowest point. I’m not too sure but it may divide the North Sea from the Baltic.

My accommodation is tiny but adequate. It is one of a number of rooms that are controlled by an elaborate system of door codes. The codes change electronically every day, refreshed by an App. I’m pleased I’m only staying one night. However, one of the codes gave me access to a washing machine and dryer….hoooray!

I have five more nights (after tonight) before I am due at my ultimate destination of Copenhagen. I need to start thinking about how I can loop around southern Sweden and get back across the Oresund. Whatever I decide I will have to do a bit of cycling tomorrow. These non-cycling days are too tough on my legs….I’ve been walking for miles today!
