Aeroskobing to Soby – 10 miles. Then a ferry to Faaborg. Another 10 miles later to Holstenhaus Slot.

The day is grey and rainy. It was chucking it down when I woke but my ride stayed dry thankfully.

The ride was mainly along the coast. There were some small hills too!

I realised that my gears weren’t functioning all the way through the range. I’d never had to use the easy gears on the trip so far!! I could still probably manage.

The ferry was pretty empty….

No frills.

I arrived in Faaborg which is a charming market town. It is on the large island of Fyn, pronounced Funen! As I landed I immediately noticed groups of very wet teenage kids canoeing, jumping in the sea and then going for a run.

This seemed to be the start point.
Here they are running through the oldest gatehouse in Denmark.

I asked someone to find out what they were doing. It is called Obstacle Course Racing (OCR). It looked like a school activity rather than an actual competition. We couldn’t get our British teenagers to do this even if we wanted to. Elf and safety wouldn’t allow it either….poor mites would get cold! We couldn’t allow that.

The main square in sunshine….later in the day.

I had been tipped off about a cafe so I headed there…,

The cake is a frog. I kissed it but I still didn’t become a prince. If you need to know it was pink marshmallow with green marzipan on top of a cake base that is dipped in chocolate. You probably thought it was a selfie!

I nipped to a nearby cycle store where the chap sorted out my gears in about 30 seconds free of charge.

I took my bags to the hostel where I am staying. I got my keys from a security box but no-one was around. Looks clean and tidy though.

I walked down by the harbour.

Whale watching. The structure behind is a public swimming area. People were swimming whilst I was there. I’m not sure what the raised platforms are about. There was a sauna in one of the buildings.
Everything looks so much better with sunshine.

I called into the tourist information too. The man recommended a nearby castle, Holstenhaus Slot and a water mill enroute.

The castle interior wasn’t open to the public but walking around the park was free. Very pleasant.

That pleasantly filled my afternoon.

I bought some smoked mackerel from the Smokehouse on the harbour for my tea.

This was my creation…

I like to do a bit of food art every now and then. I think it represents a happy hammerhead shark. Can you see it too?

Back at the hostel….half past 6 and still no one else here. I am amazed that someone is allowed into a big property totally unsupervised. Again, it would never happen in the UK….because we can’t be trusted?

Going out tonight to play table football in the Main Street. I’ve seen two of these in Faaborg. Imagine what would happen to these in a British town centre?

I think the frog kissing has started to work….but not how I would have liked. I’m starting to look like that frog.
