Ferry to Aero and cycling 23 miles from Aeroskobing to Marstal and back.
Another great day in the bag. My quirky home for the night was very comfy and it was only a little way to the ferry for a 10am sailing. That’s what I call a lie-in.
As I waited I chatted to a couple of cyclists from Edinburgh, Aidan and Judith. We had plenty to talk about. They were on a day visit to the island of Aero but we bumped into each other at lunchtime too on the island. They were great company.

Aero is a small island, quite long and thin with three main towns. I am staying in Aeroskobing which has multicoloured houses and cobbled streets.

Its iconic view is probably the beach huts.

So, after dropping my bags off at the hostel I cycled east to Marstal, the second town of the island.
Not quite so cute but it had a feature I’ve never seen anywhere before…

I bumped into Judith and Aidan again (if I keep giving them a plug they may subscribe to the blog)! Then I sheltered whilst the heavens opened and then set off back when it stopped.
My route back included a ride up a peninsula to Ommel.

I also stopped to see a 3000BC burial chamber.

I was trying to get it straight in my head about whether Danish people were Angles, Jutes or Vikings.
I looked it up and it seems they are all those things at different times. It turns out that the Viking era was between 800 and 1000AD. But the Angles and Jutes were tribes that settled in England earlier, around 400-600AD. They got some help from those pesky Saxons too! England as a word is actually derived from Angle-land, the land of the Angles! We are all Danish after all.
I returned to my hostel and got checked in. It is a little less quirky than last night as there were no dwarves to be found.
Then back to Aeroskobing for a slap up fish and chip supper.

Hence the title of the blog is the song from the Aero Chocolate advert of many years ago. I can still sing most of the words.

Aero is a lovely peaceful and pretty island. Well worth the visit. The weather has thankfully been better than the forecast again. Long may that last.
