Nakskov to Svendborg – 49 miles.

I could have chosen several titles today.

I had half an hour to get to the Tars ferry terminal to leave Lolland and arrive in Spodsbjerg on Langland island.

Quite a big ship. It was a 45 minute crossing and during the sailing I chatted with a touring cyclist called Jasper.

Langleland is a long thin island and I decided to have a little explore.

This used to be a tobacco drying hut! I never knew that tobacco was grown in Denmark!
A privately owned castle….but nice to see from the outside.

I got wet for the first time on the way into Rudkobing. I stopped for a sandwich for lunch…

What a whopper. It was an egg and bacon sandwich but it had lots of salad and…curry mayo!
I think I remember dancing hippos in the Disney film ‘Fantasia’. Someone will tell me if I’m wrong.

The wind was cruel today, especially across the next three bridges.

The next island was Tasinge.

I visited Valdemar’s Slot! A Slot is a castle in Danish.

The gatehouse.
The Slot.

Prince Valdemar was the son of King Christian IV in the 1600’s. The castle was built for him but he died early before he could live in it! It is now a contemporary art display, so I didn’t go in. I chatted with some Canadians riding electric bikes. Not surprisingly they weren’t Trump fans.

The prettiest village I passed through was Troense with a very high number of thatched houses and a harbour looking over to Svendborg.

Troense. I could show pictures of houses but I went for the view.

Svendborg was a good tour before I went to my quirky lodgings.

Main square.
The town has a trendy harbour area. Not quite so trendy on a Tuesday afternoon.

Here’s where I am staying.

I said it was quirky. It definitely could be a Dwarf house, the ceiling and door is very low. Test your imagination, could I be Snow White discovering the house. Maybe that’s a step too far !

I have discovered Danish crisp breads as an easy meal alternative. I eat them with a tub of a Danish ‘sandwich dressing’. Not cordon bleu but I can’t eat out every night.

I didn’t mention that the accommodation is called ‘Casa Ricardo’ so it must be made for me. The young couple who live in the main house are lovely and have chatted lots.

Summing up – I have done 4 islands in a day, 1 ferry, three big bridges, 2 castles, got wet through twice, seen a dancing hippo and impersonated Snow White. You don’t do that every day!
