Maribo to Nakskov – 49 miles.

After a great sleep I set off early again trying to avoid the rain that seemed forecast for most of the day. I didn’t even have breakfast….apart from an energy bar and a cup of instant coffee.

I was riding along the northern coast of Lolland and back down to Nakskov on the west side of the island. Bornholm was the first little harbour.

I thought I would take a photo of the sea before it rained.

I needn’t have worried much because apart from a couple of heavy showers it was pretty nice.

Probably the highlight of the route would be Dodekalitten.

It is a fairly recent sculpture with added ethereal sounds. It is pretty stunning in its location.

I also visited a Cherry Winery.

I got a little free sample….and a second when the man wasn’t looking!

I called into a next village for something to eat. I was struggling to decide what to buy when the lady in the shop asked what I was doing in Denmark! Out of nowhere I said that I was travelling around like ‘Jack Reacher’. She knew exactly who he was and that I meant that I was travelling light.

I told you this journey would be a fairytale (in my head).

I thought about the Jack Reacher theme. I was looking to dish out some natural justice but didn’t think anything would occur but….I came across this…

The Danes were obviously looking for trouble.

When I reached my accommodation I actually saw a drug deal going on around the corner! I could have stepped in….but those days are gone!

Anyway, I dropped off the bike and had a look around the town in decent sunshine.

This was my evening meal destination.
The much loved King Christian X on his horse.
Plenty of old buildings. Yellow is a popular colour.

The harbour is quite industrial on the other side. There is obviously some wind turbine industry in town.

Although this building is newly renovated and is a cafe and tourism hub.

I had another ride around Nakskov Fjord and enjoyed the open water.

Some distant islands.
Here is my evening meal, a very good burger and ‘probably the best beer’ I have had in Denmark….you guessed it the only one!

You will probably know that the Danish currency is the Krone. Despite being here for over 2 weeks I am trying to manage to pay for things without any cash. I searched on Google and it told me that cash isn’t needed in Denmark…let’s see….or is that another fairytale?

But the way, the town is pronounced ‘Naxcou’!
