Hamburg to Lubeck – 45 miles.
Not too far to ride today but I was worried about the rain forecast so I set off just after 7am!

And something you don’t often see…

I had to briefly deploy my jacket….

I arrived early in Lubeck and I was instantly wow’ed.

The whole town centre was gorgeous. As normal photos don’t show the place at its best. Sadly, the blue skies had gone today.

Why is this town so culturally rich but you have never heard of it? Here is a brief story of why it was historically rich.
Lubeck was the primary city of the Hanseatic League. This was a North Germany and Baltic trading group which existed from the mid 1100’s to the 1600’s. It became very rich and influential because of its economic clout. I went to a museum that explained it all. I think that the Hanseatic League were the Amazon of the Middle Ages!
I must have walked a lap of the old city and visited all its churches. Every street had nice buildings.

The rain held off pretty well. My hotel is central and pleasant. The city is amazing. What’s not to like.

If you haven’t guessed the fairytale yet, here’s another clue… ‘What big eyes you’ve got Grandma’ and ‘What big teeth you have Grandma’. You must have it.
Of course it is Little Red Riding Hood.
See you tomorrow. One more night in Germany.
