Bremen to Bremerhaven 45 miles.

I had to clear some of the Bremen suburbs for the first few miles. Then I passed through Gropelingen!

I had high expectations of the place but I didn’t even get a stroke!

I managed to get out of the built up area and soon found…

This was a secret dock for building U-boat subs.

I got half way and needed some sustenance. Hence the blog post title “Ride, ride as fast as you can you can’t catch me I’m the ‘Grasmere’ Gingerbread Man”. I had an extra boost of energy.

Today’s ride was my shortest so far. I hoped to get to Bremerhaven early in the afternoon.

About five miles out I came to this. It’s a bird watching platform. It is a bigger one than I’ve ever seen. Paid for by European money obvs!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in Bremerhaven. It turned out to be quite modern but with lots of traditional nautical twists. Definitely a million miles better than Wilhelmshafen.

Here are a few photos.

Probably for the first time on this trip I sat and did nothing. It was so pleasant in the warm sunshine.

I am ticking food off the ‘what to eat in Germany’ list! Tonight I had curry wurst.

Not exactly cordon bleu but ‘when in Germany…’

The last clip on the video was me with a statue of a chap with his binoculars looking up. I think he was looking to the top of the sail shaped skyscraper. They have a swing set up at the top, so you can swing over the edge. It sounds rather more do-able than a bungee jump. Sadly they weren’t doing it on a Monday otherwise I might have had a go!

Lastly, I found out today that the German word ‘Moin’ technically means ‘morning’ but it is actually used as a greeting at any time of the day. I wondered why people were saying ‘morning’ in the afternoon. Language is a funny thing.
