Den Oever to Groningen- 75 miles.
First, I caught the Bike Bus across the Afsluitdijk causeway.

I was pleased to miss out on cycling the straight causeway as it is over 20 miles of exactly the same…and it was very exposed to the winds.
Today was pretty ‘vindy’, as they say in these parts but bright.
I started my riding and headed along the ‘Krusty’ route. Harlingen was a nice biggish town I passed through and then it was mainly Dijks along the Krust.
One of the small towns I passed did grab my attention….

Here are some photos as I cycled…

My next town was Lauwersoog. It also has a causeway.

I stopped at another fish restaurant. I needed sustenance/energy. My favourite French reader, Josette, has told me that my food intake so far has been rubbish, so, I wonder whether she will think this is better?

The last 10 miles of my route was thankfully with the wind into Groningen. I am staying at a hostel.

I am convict…sorry guest, number 2.14.
Groningen is a busy city. It had a fair happening in the main square.

Back to the hostel. Despite the cramped accommodation hostels are great for meeting people. I have spoken to a Slovakian, a South African, an Italian, two Germans and a Bosnian girl who starts at Cambridge University in 10 days time.

So one out of three ain’t bad after all!
Germany tomorrow!
