What the Old Man does is always right!

Why have I decided on this trip?

Mmm….good question.

Well….

1. It involves much (but not all) of the Eurovelo 12 North Sea Coastal route through The Netherlands, North Germany and Denmark.

2. I haven’t been to any of the places enroute before but specifically I haven’t been anywhere in Denmark.

3. I really want to visit Copenhagen.

4. Many Europeans speak good English and may even understand my ‘cultured’ Lancashire accent but…

5. Most importantly for my cycling….its pretty flat.

I’m not sure what distances I will cover and I haven’t committed to any specific route. My plans will probably change with regularity as I have 4 weeks and shouldn’t be pressured to follow a direct route.

Whilst travelling I will recall the fabulous fables and fairytales of Andersen and The Grimms. There is much to revisit. I am doing this, not because I am a Literary Buff but because I think I can find a light hearted theme of humour and maybe a little bit of moralising from these stories that have shaped Western values and culture.

It’s not a story that we hear much now in our modern world of equality, it is a nice tale of not taken too literally BUT all I ask is that you agree that this Old Man (me) is occasionally right and I will certainly see what I can bring back from Copenhagen market, maybe something better than rotten apples.

On that note I say a big thank you to my wife, Jan, who willingly accepts my cycle trips because she knows I get a great deal of pleasure from them. Don’t worry too much about her, she will be keeping busy with friends at a local Horse Trials weekend, then flying out to Lisbon for a short holiday and then driving out to meet me in Copenhagen.

Only one week to go. I still have plenty to do!
