Well we got a reasonable start. We headed for Utrecht and then to Gouda.

Big canal entering Utrecht.

We had a couple of omissions on this trip. We hadn’t been to a church and we had only one ice cream over three days (not a good average).

We quickly sorted out the church….

The clock tower is separated from the church because of bombing in the 2nd WW. Still it was a good visit.

We had a bit of lunch before an ice cream. Stroopwaffel flavour and Malaga for me!

Next we walked around the very pleasant city which seemed much cleaner and less hectic than Amsterdam.

Utrecht is a university city and if is the home of children fiction rabbit ‘Miffy’.

There is a Miffy in the corner.

The weather was superb and the wind was in a more helpful direction. The cycling was good.

To get our ice cream consumption on a better average we had to stop for…

An ice cream from Antonio.
Here is a strong contender for windmill of the week….no I don’t mean Peter.

We arrived at Gouda (pronounced Houda) by 5pm and got straight into the cheese.

Plenty of tasting.

The town was more beautiful than I expected.

Stadthuis and church in the background.

We found another ice cream shop.

Definitely David’s gelato!!!

We spent the evening walking into town and replacing our fluids ready for another day in the saddle.
