Starting Sunday 26th April the three Vernon boys will be cycling onto the ferry at Hull and embarking on a new Dutch adventure.

The War in Iran hopefully won’t bother us on our bikes. We won’t care about the cost of petrol, as long as it doesn’t affect the price of beer.
Each year we try to find time to have a week away on bikes. Last year it was in the UK cycling around my new home in Rutland but this year we are on the continent again in Holland. David and Peter have not really visited the country so it will certainly be a journey of new experiences.
In order to plan our route I had the assistance of ChatGPT! I asked it to plan a five day cycle tour of Holland for three 60 something brothers. It came up with Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Dordrecht…..so that is what we are doing! You can’t say that we don’t embrace new technology. Perhaps ChatGPT could pedal the bikes too?
Join us for the ride. We promise that we will revert back to the behaviour of our teenage selves. There could be sibling squabbling and argie bargie (can I say that?) but I think based on our past trips we will have silly humour, nostalgia and plenty of beer. We will endeavour to go one better than talking Double Dutch…..we will talk Triple Dutch!
Notes for new readers.
I (Richard) write this blog primarily to help me remember the trip in my dementia years. I make it public for my family members, friends and regular readers but otherwise I don’t promote it on ‘social media’. If someone stumbles across it by accident and happens to like it, great and if you like it and want to share it that’s fine too but I’m not trying to go viral, I’m just trying to keep the memories. Writing the blog amuses me and keeps me quiet for half an hour each evening, so it will stop me bothering my brothers for a while!
Let’s get on with the blog and more importantly the cycling.
I just need to get myself organised and get the prerequisites for the trip. Here is the packing list…

I think I have everything! Including the Fullers Earth, Sulphate of Quinine and don’t forget the Sperm Oil! The only problem is I have now got 6 panniers to carry.
I hope David and Peter have got the loofah and pugaree! What is a pugaree? I had to Google it.

Perhaps we can manage without? One thing we always take is a flannel. The art of flannelling is two fold. It is drying the body in the absence of a towel and it is the waffle that I write on this blog
Can’t wait for Sunday. Come with us….in spirit!
