Well I mentioned meerkats, Zepplins, a big lake and consistency. It was Meersburg on Lake Constance (or Bodensee as the Germans call it).

Jan and I have previously cycled around the lake in 2019 and it brings back great memories. It is always going to be a favourite place. The cycling here is completely mainstream. Everyone seems to be on a bike and the cycle paths are perfect.

Today we stayed at Meersburg but had a good long cycling day. I will tease you with our cycling destination. We did the same route out and back so it must be within a reasonable distance.

I will let the photos help a little.

We had another ride on a ferry across to Konstanz.

We didn’t stop in Konstanz but carried on….

We needed a rest. We stopped at a cafe for a plum tart and coffee.
This was our destination in the city centre….worth a visit, don’t you think!
Also it has this Witches’ tower as a landmark on the river Rhine. We can’t get away from the major rivers of Europe.

The cycling was bliss. The weather was perfect and no wind to mention either. The countryside was agricultural but with a good mix of apple and pear orchards and vineyards. We stayed by the lake or river for much of the route. Coming back was just as lovely.

This time we stopped in Konstanz.

The harbour at Konstanz. The statue is named ‘Imperia’.

It’s the biggest city on Bodensee and has it all. Large old town centre, grand churches and good shopping.

We caught the (very efficient) ferry back to Meersburg and couldn’t resist a bier and a meal out.

The Weiss bier went down well, as did….
Not surprisingly I had the big meal of pork and Swabian noodles and Jan had a Swiss sausage salad. The pork was sooo tender and tasty. Why can’t we have pork like that in the UK? I’m sure it’s the photo angle that makes my meal look so big!

Did I forget to mention that today was a double ice cream day? Chocolate flavour and Malaga flavour. Anyone know what Malaga flavour is?

We will sleep well tonight.
