What a treat we have for you today. Not one destination but two! We have visited both today on our bikes. That is a little clue in that they must be a cyclable distance from each other but since you don’t know exactly where we start from it may not be much use.
We needed to start the day with a stroopwafel….

We cycled the canals and dykes and through woods and grassland to destination number one. Not surprisingly there were no hills.
First clue, here is the City Hall….

We had to have another stroopwafel made for us fresh on a market stall. Bigger and tastier.

The city was bombed extensively in the war by the Germans. That makes a change as it was often the Allies that bombed European cities to drive out the Germans. Famous people from here include Erasmus, the philosopher and more recently Footballer Robin Van Persie.

You must be getting an idea of where we went by now? Of course the cycle network was amazing but have you ever had a cycle underground?

With so much to see in a city you must think we were potty to move onto a second destination.
Seeing as you got to see the City Hall previously it’s only fair that I show the Stadthaus from dest2.

It is believed that Jan Vermeer the artist who painted the Girl with the Pearl Earring was born in a house on the square. He certainly was baptised in the city.
We couldn’t resist having a cup of tea from the local porcelain at the place they make it.

Are you getting warm yet? We were so warm that we needed a beer to cool down.

I’m sure you have guessed by now. The city was a real beauty. Lovely old traditional Dutch buildings, canals and plenty of history too.
Back to the van to freshen up and get set for tomorrow’s adventure. Answers tomorrow….and can we keep eating stroopwafel’s?
