Idioms or Idiots?

Some readers will remember previous brothers’cycle trips but to assist those who don’t go that far back we are David (eldest), Peter (youngest) and me, Richie (best looking)! The trip is more about grown men being childish with some cycling and culture added to fill the gaps between eating and drinking.

We are definately idiots, (originally) from Burnley, Lancashire, England. We have tried to do a few days cycling together every year. David has lived in France for many years so most of our cycle holidays have been in sunny Northern France BUT David has moved back to not so sunny Yorkshire. As a result, this year, we are cycling in England. This leads me onto another change….I am in the process of buying a house in Stamford. Now you may understand why this years adventure is based in Stamford, Lincolnshire. The choice of destination was no coincidence. It will be a ride of exploration in Stamford and the surrounding areas.

You may think what idiot is writing a cycling blog about idioms….well, that must be idiot number 1, ie. Me.

The definition of Idiom is:- a phrase whose meaning cannot be readily understood from its component parts….eg. too many cooks spoil the broth, which has nothing to do with cooking. I hope you get my meaning….if not, then you will ‘pick it up‘ (another idiom) if you don’t you could be a dead duck (nothing to do with ducks)!

Anyway, we will be exploring the area of Lincolnshire and Rutlandshire by bike. It could be a fools erand and we certainly won’t be knights in shining armour just MAMILs (Middle Aged Men in Lycra).

The exicitement starts tomorrow (Wednesday 23rd April) when David and I head down to Stamford. Peter will join us on Thursday. We aim for three good days of cycling before coming back on Sunday. No messing around with our panniers on this occasion we are staying each night in an apartment in Stamford to sample local hostelries. You know what they say, ‘if you can’t beat them join them’.
