Thursday 22nd August 2024. International Beatles Week.

I could say that ‘It’s been a hard days night’ to commemorate Beatles Week but I went one better by going to Liverpool with my daughter and listening to Beatles Tribute Bands at the famous Cavern Club. We saw a Spanish Beatles tribute singer, a Spanish Eric Clapton tribute singer and a Chilean Beatles tribute band. I was only a ‘Day Tripper’ but they made me feel ‘Glad All Over’.

Well, that visit was just ‘Yesterday’ when I should ‘Get Back’ because its will be only 5 days before I arrive in Bratislava and, ‘Here Comes the Sun’….

How’s this for a forecast for my arrival in Bratislava.

I have been making preparations for what I am taking by laying out my stuff on the spare bed.

The most important items are my spork (a utensil that includes a fork and a spoon at either end) and a flannel that I use as a towel.

I’m hoping that it all fits into the panniers. One pannier will travel as checked-in baggage and the small top box and second pannier will be carry-on bags for me. The panniers should be very waterproof but I put everything into separate plastic bags just in case. My philosophy is….if I forget something I can buy it once I arrive.

On a more important note. I have re-thought my route from Berlin to Rotterdam so that I visit bigger cities of Magdeburg, Brunswick and Hanover. I will also make sure that I call in at Rinteln….a small city that is twinned with my home town of Kendal. I have contacted the twinning committee of Rinteln to give them advance warning of my arrival! Looking at the photo, I am glad that Kendal isn’t twinned with Mount Everest or New York, they could be beyond my cycling ability!

My next posted blog will be when I set off. I am definitely in Count Down mode. I better get a move on, because I don’t want to arrive ‘When I’m Sixty Four’.
