Tuesday 10th October 2023. Gordes.

When we come on these trips we only buy our outward channel crossings as we don’t know when we will come back but we have got to the stage when we have started discussing when we will come back home and picking a date to come back….sad, but by the time that date comes round we will be ready for coming home. In the meantime we are steadily heading to Marseille with an army of English and Welsh fans for the Rugby Quarter Finals. We aren’t seeing too many Brits yet though.

Our destination today is a hilltop Beaux Village of Gordes in the Vaucluse area of Provence. We have been told of its beauty by many friends who have been.

Here’s a hilltop view.
We nicely coincided with market day and we were seduced into buying a string of garlic and a pot of tapenade (black olive and anchovy paste) which is gorgeous (or should I say Gourdeious) on french bread.
Great views of the countryside….and if your eyesight is good enough you could see the next town of Roussillion.

We just had to cycle to Roussillion too because that is a Beaux Village of France also and is famous for its ochre. I thought it was famous for its Ogre so was disappointed that the ochre was just the colour of the minerals in the ground….hence a reddish tinge to the buildings.

Here’s the ogre with a lovely lemon meringue ice cream with the ochre cliffs behind.
Fancy sundial.
We passed St Pantaleon, patron saint of trousers! If the trousers were lumieres (lit) they would be pants on fire!

We cycled back up the hill to Gordes with an almighty effort and settled down to give praise for our good fortune to be in such beautiful places, for such a long time and with such good weather. Amen.
