I apologise to using Police Dogs as one of my clues yesterday. Of course I was referring to the Alsatian breed used predominantly by the Police and they are synonymous with the Alsace region of France. I know it looks like Germany.

The destination town is the gorgeous Colmar. The home of Bartholdi who created the Statue of Liberty as a present from France to the city of New York,

We cycled into town for Jan’s birthday lunch.

Here are a selection of photographs from this amazing town.

Birthday girl!
Little Venice area.
Super day again.

We had a local style meal that was very Germanic rather than French. The town has the all the best features of both countries.

This is an old game I haven’t played for a while. You have to guess what my meal was based on my finished plate. I know it’s weird….any ideas?

What do you do with a birthday girl after lunch? Take her to a chocolate museum!

A Bugatti car made of chocolate.
Statue of Liberty made from chocolate.

We managed to scoff a few samples of chocolate on our walk around.

Jan was scanned for traces of chocolate before she was allowed out! See the likeness. Good job I wasn’t scanned.

Another walk around. We spotted the Bartholdi museum.

Colmar is such a popular tourist town it has two tourist trains.

I strongly recommend Colmar for a visit. It’s another medium sized town that is up there with Avignon and Carcassonne. The surrounding villages are sooo picturesque too. You would love it. Trust me, I wouldn’t lie or my nose would grow each time!

Back to the van at village of Wettolsheim. The next door village which featured in yesterday’s photos was Eguisheim….it is the village jewel that could have been used in Beauty and the Beast!

My meal was

Schweinshaxe, which is a slow roasted ham hock with horseradish sauce and sauerkraut….very German. Very meaty….I won’t need anything later.

Another longish drive tomorrow….see you there!
