Well all I have to do to reveal our location is….

….and what a great city it is. Jan and I chatted today and agreed it was in our top 5 French cities.

The food Halles were busy and full of all sorts of produce.

We had a full walking tour of the city. Our previous visits tended to focus on the Palais de Papes and the Bridge.

The schism I mentioned yesterday was the split of the Catholic Church that created a Pope at Avignon and a Pope in Rome at the same time!

We visited a couple of museums and walked around the city centre.

This was the musee les bains. A museum of the public baths when the people needed public showers. I compared it with Strangeways Prison in Manchester!
It has lots of shower and bath cubicles.
A nice park area where we had our sandwich.

We visited an old church building that housed a display of stuffed animals…

How many bird species can you spot.
How’s this for a menagerie! You were thinking rude thoughts when you saw the blog title!! Shame on you!

We also visited the Lapiderie museum that was an old Jesuit church now housing a range of ancient Roman and Egyptian sculptures.

All these places were free to enter.

We celebrated a lovely day with ice cream. Possibly the best of the trip?

We spent time sitting by the river in pleasant sunshine knowing that we would be northward bound tomorrow.

But one last photo of Avignon to leave you with today….

It’s up there with Carcassonne and Bordeaux as top visits in France.

We haven’t given up on sunshine yet but possibly got dodgy weather the next couple of days….according to the forecasts.
