We drove down to the Med coast highway and had our first view of the Mediterranean.

We avoided the Côte d’Azur because it isn’t motorhome friendly and it is very busy. Instead we travelled west along the toll motorway and back up into the hills.
We wanted to visit Vence which is a town twinned with Stamford. We knew it only had one viable car park but when we found it the access road was too narrow for us. Also the town was exceptionally busy. We didn’t see the historic centre but rather the shopping area. We just had no where to park. Sadly we gave up and looked elsewhere. Our twinning efforts have come to nought.
We continued again to a small town that would normally be difficult to guess but to help I can tell you its name is derived from a redheaded mountain?
We got settled onto an aire and went in search of the town which was about 5km away.

This Chapel was gifted to the town by Christian Dior the fashion designer. He owned the Grand Maison of the town.
On the way back to the van we did our first French supermarket shop….it is such a pleasure to see the fresh veg and all the wonderful French foods. I managed to purchase a bottle of Ventoux red wine for later.
There was some important business to attend to today….

It was the Women’s Rugby World Final between England and Canada. It was a great game with two great teams. Happily England won 33-13.
I managed a couple of glasses of red with our evening meal.
I had been disappointed about not seeing Vence but Saturday mornings are particularly busy in France so it was possibly the worst time to attempt a visit.
Tomorrow we will stay put and cycle around Lac de Saint-Cassian which is just south of here. That might help you guess our current location.
I may miss a days blogging but I will fill in the details on Monday.
