The fabulous location of yesterday was Speyer which is close to Heidelberg. If you have never heard of it put it on your list. We had it at its best with a festival thrown in. We have visited here about four times now. The last time was in 2019 when Jan and I cycled the whole of the river Rhine….a great memory.

Today we had a specific target to visit my cousin-in-law and family (Matthew, Anne and two boys Nicholas and Martin) who live in this place.

We travelled again further south past the Hockenheim Grand Prix track and past Stuttgart. By lunchtime we were on our new site by the river Neckar. This city has one of the oldest Universities in Germany. Alois Alzheimer, the psychiatrist who is credited with identifying presenile dementia went to University here….he later forgot all about it!

We cycled into the city.

This is probably the most famous view used in tourism brochures.
It has a lovely Altstadt (old town).

We called on Matthew and Anne and set off for a walk around the centre. It included a visit to a recommended cafe….

I had my first Schwarzwald Gateau….thats a Black Forest Gateau if you didn’t know. I say first because I hope it won’t be my last. I would have enjoyed anything on display.
Great photo and beautiful surroundings.

By this time I was getting worn out with giving piggy backs and racing children up hills so we had to go back and put our feet up at the motorhome. It was really good to see Matthew, Anne and family. Even they were kept in the dark about our arrival till Friday. They may have an advantage today in guessing our Destination!

Lastly, to help everyone else I will say that the first two letters of the German car registrations for this city are ‘TU’. If you didn’t know the first letters represent the registration area of the owner. Get your maps out and find where we are tonight!
