I have nothing against Rob Brydon, except his razor-sharp wit and his money and success but I’m sure you will agree that I make a handsome, younger (looking) version of him for the purposes of the blog. He also has a tendency to tell lies on his regular quiz show (Would I Lie to You), so we have something in common after all!

Today was our D Day. The van was packed and off we popped heading in the general direction of Harwich. So, on this occasion you already know our destination but you don’t know where we might stop along the way.

I will introduce you to our mode of transport….

Mobile luxury. We gave the van a special clean before we set off. The van name should not be considered to be a clue to our destination!

We arrived at our stop-off point in time for a late coffee. We weren’t in the slightest bit travel sick, on the contrary I was ready for holiday food treats. Although the word ‘holiday’ does breach my concept of a travelling lifestyle. To make the word holiday apply it would imply that I work for a living and have holidays from work but if I don’t work then perhaps I can’t have a holiday. Whatever….I can still have foody treats cant I?

Time for a few photo clues about where we stopped….

What a lovely place on a lovely day. It was the home to the Marquess of Bristol.
Entrance hall with an unusual display.
We had a pleasant walk around the Italianate Garden, church, lake and walled garden.
I had a ‘compulsory’ coffee and walnut cake.
Are you stumped about our location?

Would it help if I told you it was a National Trust property or did you guess that already? Well, it’s also near a town that sounds as if it should make Black Puddings but of course that would not be possible in this part of the country.

I think you will agree that it is a gorgeous place to pause on our journey….but where is it?

We were interested to see what Harwich was like. I have returned to Harwich on a ferry but never departed from here and never seen the town. I suspected it was a little run down but it had some pleasant features.

It claims to be the home port of ‘The Mayflower’ ship that sailed later from Plymouth to America. The Ships Master was from Harwich too.

We wildcamped overlooking the Felixstowe container port which I thought was pretty cool. We watched the ferries come and go.
The sunset was gorgeous. The statue commemorates the 10,000 Jewish children that were evacuated (via Harwich) from Germany before the Second World War.

The town has a low lighthouse and a high lighthouse and several small maritime museums. There were some tatty looking buildings dotted around amongst the older port houses but overall it probably exceeded my expectations.

On this blog post I am giving you the destination but asking you to guess the grand house we visited earlier. Good luck….and the good news is that no one will be eliminated from the programme/blog.

One response to “Younger version of Rob Brydon!”

Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park could be the answer but not quite a NT type of place. David
