Round Rutland Water route, 63km.

The day started with a a walk around Stamford Market. David purchased some local honey and we set off around the southern edge of Rutland.

We found the quarry where all the lovely local stone comes from….

On to Normanton Church at the waters edge. Probably the most photographed view on Rutland Water.

We visited the Osprey visitor centre and watched the video link of Osprey ‘Maya’ sitting on 4 eggs. Apparently there are 28 ospreys in the wider Rutland area.

Onwards to Oakham.

Oakham castle includes a Manor House that is full of horseshoes that were presented by royal and noble visitors to the town. The castle also doubled as a courthouse and here is Judge David presiding!

I love the bluebells at this time of year.

Importantly we stopped for our first ice creams.

Our evening involved drinking dirty beer and fish and chips. Also prattling on about all sorts of rubbish. Maybe it was a result of the hops based drink we were consuming…

I think David and Peter are quite impressed by the hostelries of Stamford, we certainly drank like a fish, and chips!
