Riding day today. 75km to Woolsthorpe Manor.
In the morning I was dispatched to Waitrose to get provisions for our lunch. It’s not often I am seen with a Percy pig carrier bag….

We set off on a day of cycling north through farming land and small villages. The good news was that although it was dull it was dry.
We first stopped at Castle Bytham. The castle was absent without leave….

Next was the windmill at Wymondham where we ate our first Melton Mowbray pie just to keep up our pie in the sky.

Our lunchtime destination was Woolsthorpe Manor, the birthplace of Isaac Newton and the place that he discovered gravity.

I read the scientific information about Newton linking the falling of an apple to the positions of stars and planets and the movement of the tides! Wow, it blows my mind. He worked this out whilst living at home with his parents to avoid the plague at his University in Cambridge. At the same time he discovered the spectrum of light through a prism! He certainly didn’t hide his light under a bushel, we now know that time and tide wait for no-man.
In seriousness Newton’s discoveries and theories were an amazing feat of brain power, especially special because he lived in the 17th Century.
We cycled back through lovely countryside, bought some beer from the Adnams Brewery shop in Stamford and met Peter as he arrived.
We went back out in the early evening.

We did the walking tour of last night in reverse. We couldn’t resist a drink in various drinking houses as we walked.

We had a lovely meal in the Tobie Norris pub. David was in a grumpy mood and I had to remind him that I am not my brothers keeper. It turned out that he was just being daft as a brush.
Ready now for more cycling tomorrow around Rutland.
