Thursday 5th September 2024. Be Late for Something Day.

Nymburk to Prague – 62km.

First issue I had, getting breakfast. I went down to the market and had a sausage roll (Czech style) and nectarines and a fig for extra power! I sat eating watching the fruit and veg man making his strawberry punnets. He was very careful to put good strawberries on top!

Second issue was getting myself new reading glasses. The lens had fallen out of my glasses. Once I could read again I could set off.

Back on track on the Labe or Elbe, whatever you want to call it.
I have no idea what these were about but it’s not everyday you cycle through the countryside and find massive sculptures.

I headed on to Prague and apart from a confusing part of the route which caused me to lift my bike and bags up and down various stairs to get over a railway line it was all going well.

The river Vltava which goes through Prague. It seems to be the place where all the boat trips go from.

I weaved through the city to find the hostel. Check-in was at 2 and so was I. There is no chance, if I can help it, that I will be late for something. I don’t agree with the nominated Day today.

Luma Terra Hostel. I checked in at 2pm but they couldn’t accommodate my bike! I was very cross….but calm! I have had to leave it locked up on the street around the corner!

I was in a room with an American and a Swede who spoke perfect English. A quick shower and I was out to look around the amazing sights. It seemed busy with tourists but I suspect it was quiet by Prague standards.

Here’s a photo selection so far.

Wenceslas Square. I’m still not so sure he was a Good King or not.
Inside the Railway Station.
King Henry’s Tower.
The Clock Tower.
Old Town Square.
And again.
King Charles Tower on the Bridge.
The Vltava from the bridge.

Beyond the bridge is Prague Castle. I will tackle that tomorrow. I believe it is substantial.

I visited several churches today too. It’s beyond Baroque. There must have been a wealthy period in Prague’s history. I haven’t done my research as I should, sorry.

I have generally grazed today. I struggle to choose somewhere to eat when I am confronted with so much choice and by now I know that Prague prices are more than elsewhere. It’s £2 for in ice cream here instead of £1.30 elsewhere! Beer is up from £2 to £3 for a pint!

I will have an early night. The Dorm is pretty smart. Each bunk has a mini fan. I need charging up too….O mean my devices.
