Just less than 4 weeks before I set off but I am struggling to contain my excitement. I have been out on my bike around various parts of the Morecambe Bay cycle route.

This is Arnside Pier.
I have been down through Lancaster and on to Glasson Dock and more recently around to Barrow in Furness on the northern edge of the Bay.

If you haven’t cycled around Morecambe Bay I can recommend it for a two or three day cycle tour. Great sea views, sand views and Lakeland Mountain views.
I have got a cardboard box from a local cycle shop and practiced the dismantling of my Marin bike. This involves removing the handlebars, saddle, front wheel and pedals….simple, not!
The pedals were stuck solid. After much lubrication and then straining with a pedal spanner I was still struggling. My last act of desperation was to involve Janice! I wanted her to stand on the pedals to stop them moving whilst I tried to loosen them. I can’t quite describe the scene but she was astride the bike with one foot on a pedal and the other foot on a chair whilst I grunted with the spanner on the pedal. It just managed to remove the pedals….phew!

I decided that it could stay in the box till I travel. I don’t want to put it together and dismantle it again. I hope it is easier to rebuild….fingers crossed. I think I deserve a drink….

So I haven’t managed to contain my excitement but I have managed to contain the bike!
I haven’t got much further with a blog theme.
I wondered about using an Olympics theme but that will have finished by the time I start the ride. I will keep my thinking cap on!
