Thursday 12th October 2023. Aix en Provence.
A lovely leisurely day sightseeing in Aix….which we now know is pronounced X. It was an easy bike ride into the centre. There was a market on, mainly clothes and accessories rather than food.

We succumbed to having lunch in the city and……

Whilst browsing around the city centre I spotted two England rugby players, Dan Cole and Theo Dan outside a cafe, both are front row forwards. Shortly after I also saw Owen Farrell, Manu Tuillagi and Elliot Daly. They were later heard to express disappointment that they hadn’t spoken to me but they knew that I was relaxing on my holiday and didn’t want any intrusion at this time! I should have told them where they have been going wrong. England could possibly squeeze through the quarters against Fiji but I suspect it could end badly in the semis.
Apparently there are still tickets available for the England v Fiji game but England fans aren’t buying them because the standard of play by England has been poor. I could be one of those England fans for just that reason. I’ll support from the cheap seats in a busy bar in the city.
On the way back to the site Jeff (the last time I will switch names) and I cycled out towards Mont St. Victoire. What a stunning sight it is….it’s worth the journey to France on its own!

I’m going to shake off my low expectations of England from now on and I will get motivated to urge them to go on to win the World Cup against all odds. I joked with some other fans today that England have held back all their attacking tactics till the knockout stages of the cup so that all the other teams are caught by surprise. They are saving the best till last. So, ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’!
