Wednesday 4th October 2023. Dardilly, Lyon.

No one guessed yesterday’s dessert….it was a fancy ‘I’lle Flotant’, a poached soft meringue floating on a bed of crème anglais. This one was flavoured with strawberry and crushed caramelised nuts….so scrummy. It’s not normally strawberry flavoured….usually it has a caramel sauce drizzled on top.

After a peaceful night we were preparing for the assault on Lyon. We had already decided that I wouldn’t cycle the last few kilometres because it’s often not too nice to cycle through a big city and it’s also easier to navigate the city when two people are in the van trying to interpret the sat nav directions. Both reasons were valid as the camp site we were pre-booked into is north of the city by quite a way….it would have been a battle with city traffic to ride to it.

We couldn’t arrive at the site till 2pm. We could spend the morning walking! I almost forgot how to have a nice country walk! It was very pleasant in the morning sunshine to walk from where we were parked to some ruined Roman aqueduct.

Amazing piece of Roman Aqueduct that was once 200km long!

You may not believe this but today was cooler than it has been for the whole of the last month. It was down to 21 degrees….don’t worry it has still been sunny but a cooler north wind. It seems the same for the next couple of days before it starts to warm up again. I’m getting so worried that we called into Decathlon at Lyon to buy me some long trousers!

We arrived at the site bang on 2pm….we are nothing if not punctual.

A good well organised site. It is full of people here for the rugby weekend. Even our German neighbour is from Hamburg Rugby Club. We didn’t expect rugby fans from Germany.

We spent our afternoon catching up on washing and cleaning tasks which means that I didn’t ride my bike. My body will be wondering what’s going on. I probably needed some recovery because I was feeling rather pooped….

I’m taking a chance to have a rest. Looking a bit peeky!

I managed to find time to pick a new Fantasy Rugby team for the final pool games. It’s probably the best round of all. The pick of the bunch is the Scotland v Ireland game. Someone has realised that the two teams could fix the game so that South Africa are knocked out! However, to do so both teams would have to score four tries but Scotland would need to win by 21 points. Rather unlikely and I don’t think Ireland agree to being beaten by Scotland at any time.

Big day tomorrow….sightseeing in Lyon and then a build up to our New Zealand v Uruguay match at 9pm. I will not be posting a blog tomorrow!
