Monday 18th September 2023. Carcassonne.

I had a good sleep last night….I must have needed it.

I went into Castelnaudry and the market was in full swing.

It’s a good market in Castelnaudry.
A great view of the town across the canal basin.

I only had just over 40km of cycling to get to Carcassonne.

I took a detour to Bram for morning coffee. It was mentioned in one of the Kate Mosse novels that are written about this area but there wasn’t much to it. By now I was getting excited about meeting Janice again after being apart for nearly 3 weeks.

I caught sight of Carcassonne Cité…it’s such an impressive view…

I will give a few more photos…

The Narbonne Gates.
There are inner and outer walls and even a fortress on the inside too.

I couldn’t resist a Cassoulet for lunch and then I returned to a motorhome aire nearby to meet up with Janice.

I must apologise for me not wearing my shirt in the next photo…look away now if you are of a squeamish disposition,

It was great to get back together. I couldn’t keep my hands off her!

We celebrated with a….wait for it…..a cup of tea! My first cup of tea for a long time, certainly since I’ve been cycling in France. Then we had a meal out in the cité in the evening. Janice had the cassoulet and I had wild boar.

Then a return to our lovely van for an early night.

The cycling will continue but the good news is that I won’t have to carry around heavy bags and I don’t have to sleep in mixed dormitories.
