Friday 15th Saturday 2023. Toulouse.

I nearly slept in this morning! My host ‘knocked me up’ at 8.15am….late for me! I had my breakfast and got back on the road for another hot and sunny day.

The canal going over the Tarn river outside Moissac.
This is supposed to represent Jacques Cousteau’s boat ‘Calypso’!

I stopped off at Montech and Grissolls for a coffee and pastry before arriving early afternoon in Toulouse.

I called in at the Ernst-Walloon Stadium, the home of Toulouse Rugby Club. Janice, I and my son John came here a few years ago to watch a match against Cardiff.

Toulouse is the end of the Garonne and the start of the Canal du Midi. So that will be the canal I will follow to the Mediterranean.

I had a hostel booked in the city centre and found it without a problem. I am in a four bunk mixed room….

I was on the top bunk above a guy from French Guyana and a lady was opposite. I certainly meet some interesting people.

I had a wander around the city and wanted to locate the Rugby Village for later. There are some amazing places, here are a few….

The main square is the Place de Capitol. A performance is being set up for tomorrow….I asked a security guard what it was be he didn’t know either….beyond his position? it looked like it might be an orchestra?
Hotel d’Ussezat.
Church of St Serin. I visited several churches and they were all amazing on the insides. I will save the Cathedral till tomorrow.

Around half eight I headed to the Rugby Village. The guy called Glen, from Chippenham who I had met a couple of time cycling on the route spotted me and I spent the evening watching New Zealand v Namibia on the big screen.

The Hakka challenge.

The All Blacks didn’t come to loose….that became very obvious as they won comfortably 71-3. We had a rain shower mid way through the match but we were dry again by the end. I’ve arranged to have lunch with Glen tomorrow in the city. He will get the train to Nice on Sunday as he has tickets for the England v Japan match. That will be the end of his trip.

Talking of travel….Janice flys out to Limoges tomorrow too. I should see her on Monday near Carcassonne if all things go according to plan.
